Reports currently gathered from the the plane crush which skidded off the runway whilst landing at Calicut Airport in Kerala on August 7 indicates that 16 people have died which includes both pilots out of the 191 passengers onboard.
The Air India Express flight AXB1344, B737 which took off from Dubai to Calicut overshot the runway with the aircraft splitting into 2 it skidded into a deep valley at the Calicut airport in Kerala around 7:45 pm yesterday.
Reports say the flight was part of the Vande Bharat Mission which was meant to bring back home some stranded people from other countries amid the spread of the coronavirus where economies are cramping. It has also been reported that the 2 pilots tried their very best to land in the heavy rain after aborting their first attempt and circling over the airport for about 20 minutes.
According to reports coming from police, the pilots “Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe and Captain Akkilesh Kumar) and 12 other individuals were killed in the crash having 123 people also being injured in the crash.
Air India Express in a statement disclosed that there was no fire reported at the time of landing. The senior local policeman Abdul Karim had this to say to AFP “It said there were 174 passengers, 10 infants, 2 pilots and 5 cabin crew on board the aircraft.. I can confirm at least 14 deaths overall. Another 15 passengers have critical injuries.
