According to boxing promoter Eddie Hearm, British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua has agreed to fight his mandatory IBF challenger Kubrat Pulev in December just to defend his 3 world heavyweight titles.
AJ and Kubrat were billed to fight somewhere in June at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the bout had to be cancelled. Reports currently gathered indicates that a new date for the clash has not been announced yet but there is a possibility of the pair fighting in December at the O2 Arena.
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearm in an interview said ” We know AJ’s only going to fight once this year, so we want to give ourselves the best opportunity to bring in a crowd and that would obviously be the later the better”.
“But it’s still not a gimme at all. There’s still a very strong chance that AJ will have to fight behind closed doors. Bearing in mind he’s only going to fight once this year, I just feel as we might as well give ourselves every chance to have a crowd and that will be the first weekend of December”.
AJ actually won back WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles when he defeated Andy Ruiz Jr in their rematch somewhere in December 2019.
Right after his clash with Kubrat Pulev in December 2020, AJ will head on to face WBC champion, Tyson Fury, in what we call a British heavyweight showdown.
