Amidst series of looting in Lagos State, suspected hoodlums have tampered with the iconic statue of late nationalist Obafemi Awolowo by removing his glasses.
The statue was erected during the administration of the former governor of the state, Akinwumi Ambode at Ikeja, Lagos. The glass was still intact after some protesters removed it during a protest some weeks ago, but now it has gone missing.
Few weeks ago, angry hoodlums had burnt down the Nnamdi Azikwe statue in Anambra state. It seems to be that the youths are targeting the iconic landmarks that represent the achievement of past leaders who fought for nationalism and democracy.
Photos of the statue has continued to make rounds all over Nigerian social media and many are not really shocked about the news because hoodlums had the guts to steel the staff and shoe of the Oba of Lagos.
