President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he is disgusted with the coverage and reportage the the Cable News Network, CNN made concerning the #EndSARS protests.
Recall that the CNN made series of investigative reports on the Lekki Tollgate shooting and this even prompted the Minister of Informational and Culture to write a letter to the organisation stating that the report wasn’t investigative at all because the videos used were those circulated online by citizens.
Buhari said that the foreign media organisations didn’t report the killings of policemen neither did they report the vandalism of police stations and breaking out of prisoners from correctional facilities.
He stated his displeasure during a meeting with the State Governors at The Presidential Villa on Tuesday, December 8. Garba Shehu, the Special Assistant to the President of Media and Publicity quoted Buhari in a statement.
“I was disgusted by the coverage, which did not give attention to the policemen that were killed, the stations that were burnt, and prisons that were opened. (They said we are all at fault. We don’t have the sympathy of anyone. We are on our own).”
The President also warned that his government would no longer allow violent demonstrations in Nigeria as “democracy does not mean confusion or lack of accountability.”
