Lionel Messi who happens to Barcelona’s main man for a world record of 4th time has been named the IFFHS award winner for world’s best play-maker of the year 2019. Messi beat off competition from Madrid star Eden Hazard and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. Considered football genius of his generation, Messi failed to win Champions League but guided Barcelona to the La Liga last season.

Magnificent Messi claimed award with 299 points ahead of the Man City star who came second with 85 points. The Argentine faces stiff competition from his close rival Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s centre-back Virgil van Dijk ahead of this year’s award gala slated for December.
