Information currently reaching our outfit indicates that Brazilian legend, Ronaldinho has been released from prison as at Monday, August 24, after spending 5 months in detention over a forged passport. Paraguayan Judge, Gustavo Amarilla released Ronaldinho and his brother, Roberto de Assis Moreira, who was held in prison for a month and 4 months under house arrest for the same charge.
The judge who released the former Barcelona star had this to say; ‘‘ Ronaldinho is free to travel to whatever country in the world he wants but he must inform us if he changes his permanent residence for a period of 1 year, he has no restrictions except for the fulfilment of reparations for damage to society”.
Reports has it that Ronaldinho accepted the terms of his release which included a $90,000 payment of damages. His brother was also fined to a tune of $110,000.
The judge then explained that he was not issuing a ‘definitive dismissal’ of the case but rather the Brazilian Legend was benefitting from a ‘conditional suspension of the procedure’. His brother who also turns out to be his business manager was also given a 2-year suspended sentence. Prosecutors who were on the case believe that Ronaldinho had no single idea about the passport being fake but disclosed de Assis Moreira was likely aware that the passports issued them were fake.
