Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo state has said that he would not be part of any bill seeking to regulate the social media.
According to him, the meeting held on Sunday between Southwest governors and traditional rulers wasn’t to discuss the regulation of social media, however if anyone decides to sponsor a social media regulation bill, he should be counted out as he wouldn’t be in support of it.
Makinde disclosed this on Tuesday, November 10 while inaugurating the state’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate the cases of police brutality. He tweeted;
“I also clarified the misrepresentation of the position of the Southwest leaders on the so-called social media bill. Contrary to media reports, our position remains that since we already have an extensive Cybercrime Act, 2015 we don’t need any other bills to regulate social media.”
