The Cable News Network, CNN has responded to the sanction threat made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed concerning their report on the Lekki shooting.

CNN has said that they stand by their report and that it was carefully and meticulously researched.

Earlier today, Mohammed had said that the CNN’s report was reinforcing disinformation and it was irresponsible of the CNN to make such a report.

He said;

“Like everyone else, I watched the CNN report. I must tell you that it reinforces the disinformation that is going around, and it is blatantly irresponsible and a poor piece of journalistic work by a reputable international news organization,

“This is very serious and CNN should be sanctioned for that,” he added.

CNN has gone ahead to make another publication defending their report and has also replayed the visually report hourly on television.

The text report reads;

‘Nigeria threatens CNN with sanctions but provides no evidence,

“Our reporting was carefully and meticulously researched, and we stand by it. The report was based on testimony from dozens of witnesses, and photos and video obtained and geolocated by CNN. It painted a picture of how members of the Nigerian army and the police shot at the crowd, killing at least one person and wounding dozens more.

“CNN verified photos and videos acquired from multiple eyewitnesses and protesters using timestamps and other data from the video files. Video footage shows soldiers who appear to be shooting in the direction of protesters. And accounts from eyewitnesses established that after the army withdrew, a second round of shooting happened later in the evening.

“Prior to publishing the report, CNN tried multiple times to elicit comment from the Nigerian army and police. A Lagos State police spokesman declined to comment because of an ongoing investigation. While a statement from the Lagos State government said that there would be no comment while a judicial tribunal was underway.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians of social media have said that the Nigerian government has just annoyed the CNN as they would continue to ‘expose’ the FG regarding the truth of the Lekki Toll Gate Shooting.

In his words;

”After so many days, we saw a camcoder in plain view.  Are they saying that camera was there and nobody knew about the presence of that camera? It was in plain view and the Minister went and removed it.

“Who planted it? That is what we want to know. It was planted because there is no way..That Camcoder looks planted because there is no way that it will be plain view in one of the booths.

“How come it was there and nobody saw it. There are mobile phone providers that went there to look at their lines that were damaged. Nobody saw that camera. It is not so tiny.

Former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has blasted the Minister of Works, Babatunde Raji Fashola for removing a camera from the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

Recall that we earlier published a story stating that Fashola whilst inspecting the Lekki shooting site discovered a mystery camera which he said would provide forensic evidence of what really happened during the shooting.

Well, Fani-Kayode has come out to state that a minister isn’t supposed to remove a camera from a crime scene.

FFK disclosed this via his Twitter account on Monday, October 26. He added that the truth of the Lekki shooting would only be revealed after President Muhammadu Buhari has completed his tenure.

He tweeted;

“Why would a Minister remove a camera from the crime scene of the biggest mass murder in our history?If the camera was planted by Govt. they will show us what they want us to see. If the camera was not planted &provides evidence of genocide it will be doctored or destroyed &..1/2

“The deep state is at work here but we cannot be fooled. It is only after PMB leaves office that the truth about what happened at the Lekki Toll gate will be exposed.After that he &all those that were involved will be bundled to the ICC at the Hague for crimes against humanity.

Tinubu Advises Government To Donate Lekki Toll Gate Revenue To Victims of Police Brutality- See Screenshots.

National Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suggested that when the Lekki Toll Fate is finally reopened, the revenues should be given to victims of police brutality and the Lekki shooting in particular.

Tinubu has also denied being the owner of the toll gate and also having anything to do with the shooting. This information was disclosed in a press statement released via his official Twitter account on Sunday, October 25.

He said;

“Today, I speak to those who believe in the importance of, and want to know, the truth. The slander aimed at me is based on the untruth that I own the toll gate concession. The hate mongers prevaricate that I ordered the Lekki assault because the protests had caused me to lose money due to the interruption of toll gate activity.

“The toll gate is a public asset. Given what has happened, I would like to propose to government that the toll gate be left closed for an indefinite period. If it is reopened, revenues should be donated to the confirmed victims of the Lekki attack as well as to other identifiable victims of police brutality in Lagos.

“Let government use the money to compensate and take care of those who have lost life or limb in the struggle for all citizens to go about the quiet, peaceful enjoyment of life without fear of undue harassment at this or that checkpoint,”
