A tricycle operator has been crushed to death by a water tanker, several others have also sustained varying injuries.
This unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, September 15 at Nkpor, Onitsha-Awka Old Road, near Onitsha. The accident involved a tricycle and a Mercedes-Benz 911 water tanker.
Based on eyewitness report, the crash happened because of the wrongful over taking of the tanker driver and excessive speeding.
The incident has been confirmed by the Acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra Sector Command, Kamal Musa.
Musa disclosed that corpse of the deceased had been deposited after the body was certified dead by a doctor.
“A fatal road traffic crash involving a yellow Mercedes Benz 911 water tanker with number plate XB 698 GDD and a yellow TVS tricycle without number plate was recorded opposite the Jodon Shopping Mall, Nkpor, along the Onitsha-Awka Old Road.
“The crash involved a total of five persons, four male adults and one female adult. Three male adults and one female adult, who sustained varying degrees of injury, were taken to the Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha, by the FRSC rescue team from the Nteje Unit Command.
“The dead victim was deposited in the hospital’s morgue after he was certified dead by a doctor at the hospital.” He said.
He also said the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Andrew Kumapayi, condoles with the family of the deceased and wishes the injured victims’ recovery. Kumapayi warned motorists to be careful with speed and also avoid unnecessary and wrongful overtaking.
