UNICEF Reacts To Abduction Of Schoolboys In Katsina, Demand Immediate Release Of The Students

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has condemned the attack and abduction of students by gunmen at the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, demanding for their immediate release.

A statement released by UNICEF Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Marie-Pierre Poirier, stated that the Fund condemns the brutal attack and calls for the immediate release of all children and their return to their various families.

The statement read, “UNICEF is deeply concerned about this act of violence. Attacks on schools are a violation of children’s rights.

“Children should feel safe at home, in schools and in their playgrounds at all times.

“We stand with the families of the missing children and the community affected by this horrifying event.”

The director recognised the efforts of the Nigerian government in securing the safe return of all the missing students back to their parents.

The students were kidnapped by gunmen on Friday night from a boarding school in Katsina State.
